The Sinclair Method

The Sinclair Method works differently from the ReNova Method to heal alcoholism. It works by extinguishing all or most of the pleasure response from alcohol. The Sinclair Method does this by way of the use of a high dose of the medication Naltrexone, usually combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Like the ReNova Method, the Sinclair Method can be used either for sobriety or moderate drinking. But the Sinclair Method has a lot of side effects that can be severe. These can include migraine headaches, a loopy or fugue state feeling, severe nausea, loss of sex drive, emotional numbness, and potential liver damage. Some of these side effects are long-lasting, even after someone discontinues using the Sinclair Method. The Sinclair Method can work either quickly or slowly depending on the individual. For those that experience minimal side effects, or work through that phase, the Sinclair Method has a high rate of success comparable to the ReNova Method.

AA & Treatment Centers

AA and treatment centers provide group support for sobriety. Treatment centers provide education about addiction, psychotherapy and introduction to AA and AA's psychological/religious hybrid approach. Treatment centers can be extremely expensive, with prices ranging typically from 20,000 to 60,000 dollars or more. You may be responsible for any amount not reimbursed by your insurance company.

Most aftercare is provided through daily or semi-daily AA meeting attendance, which must be maintained for a lifetime to stay sober. AA and treatment centers have a low rate of success with 60% failing to stay sober for a full year according to the AMA and only 1/15 ever staying permanently sober according to in-depth research.
